Fluoride Treatment
Topical fluoride applied at routine cleanings to strengthen enamel, lower decay risk, and reverse early-stage cavities — safe for every age.
Overview
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that strengthens tooth enamel against acid attack from oral bacteria. Topical fluoride — varnish, gel, foam, or rinse applied directly to the teeth — concentrates that protection at the surface where decay starts. At Diamond Dentistry it is part of the routine preventive visit, particularly for patients with elevated decay risk or early enamel demineralization.
What It Does
Strengthens enamel against acid produced by oral bacteria
Helps remineralize early decay before it becomes a cavity that needs a filling
Reduces sensitivity in exposed root surfaces
Adds long-running protection from a quick application
Safe for children, teens, and adults at clinical doses
What to Expect
Topical fluoride is usually applied right after a professional cleaning. Once you choose a flavor, the team applies the formulation to your teeth and asks you to keep it in place for one to four minutes. After that, brief eating and drinking restrictions apply (typically thirty minutes for varnish) so the fluoride can fully bond to the enamel.
Who Benefits Most
While preventive fluoride benefits most patients, Dr. Rowland especially recommends it for children whose enamel is still maturing, adults with a history of frequent cavities, patients with dry mouth from medication, anyone with exposed root surfaces, and patients in active orthodontic treatment.
