3D Oral Imaging & CBCT
Cone beam CT (CBCT) imaging that captures a 3D view of teeth, jaw, and surrounding bone for precise implant planning, root canal evaluation, and surgical guidance.
Coming Soon: 3D Imaging at Diamond Dentistry
Diamond Dentistry is adding the CareStream 9300, a widely used cone beam CT (CBCT) platform that captures a full three-dimensional model of the teeth, jaws, sinuses, and surrounding bone. The added detail makes a meaningful difference for cases where two-dimensional X-rays leave too much to inference — implant planning, root canal evaluation, surgical assessment, and airway or TMJ analysis. In-house 3D imaging will be available at our Wellington, FL office in the near future.
What CBCT Adds Over Traditional X-Rays
True 3D anatomy instead of a flat projection — teeth, roots, bone, sinuses, and nerve canals visible in their actual positions
Significantly lower radiation than a medical CT scan while delivering comparable diagnostic detail
Precise measurement of bone height and width for implant planning
Better visualization of curved or accessory root canals during endodontic treatment
Earlier detection of issues that hide behind overlapping structures on a 2D image
What a Scan Looks Like
The capture is fast and noninvasive: you stand or sit while the scanner makes a single 360-degree rotation around your head, typically completing the acquisition in well under a minute. Dr. Rowland then reviews the resulting 3D model with you, walking through the findings that informed the treatment plan.
When You Are Likely to Need One
CBCT is not part of every routine visit — it is used when the diagnostic question or treatment plan benefits from the additional detail. Common cases include planning a dental implant, evaluating bone before grafting, assessing a complex root canal, surgical planning for an extraction or wisdom teeth, and TMJ or airway evaluation.
